So I thought I should give you an update of how I am doing while here in China. :) Its only been six days but already it feels like two weeks! My flight was forever long but I finally landed and we spent a few days in Hong Kong. We went to Victoria's Peak, which is the highest peak in China! :)
You ride a boat out to the restaurant and you eat dim sun, which is kinda like eating buffet style for us.
My favorite part of our few days in Hong Kong was definitely seeing the big Buddha. The big Buddha is located in Ngong Ping island. Its a part of the Buddhism religion, and its one of their female gods. It was truly an amazing sight.
There are so many people in Hong Kong! They all drive on opposite sides of the roads than we do, and they also have the steering wheel on the right side of the car, I thought that was pretty neat! Apparently its because British were the first ones to settle Hong Kong, I had never heard that before!
So far I have loved being in China, overall I have had a good experience. Of course with everything in life, there is definitely difficulties that come with living here. The squat toilets are one of those very large difficulties!!! haha I'm getting the hang of them though! Its also hard to be here because everyone stares you down and takes pictures of you even though they don't know you. Its almost like I'm a celebrity to them here. I have a hard time having any sort of attention focused on me, so you can imagine my face turns red often!! The food is also a bit difficult, along with the fact we have no air conditioning or heat. But I'm loving every second of it. I'm so grateful that I have this opportunity to be in such a remarkable country. I just think of how blessed we are in the States to have what we have. I have seen so much poverty since being here, and it breaks my heart to see it, I can do nothing more than smile at them and let them know that I care. I try every day to smile at every person I come in contact with. I want them to walk away remembering that Americans are friendly, and that we care.

DeleteI'm glad you're having such a great time! I recognized Hong Kong in your very first picture before I read that you were at Victoria's Peak ;) Guess I'm never gonna forget what home looks like huh. hmm... Hong Kong was under British rule for around 100 years (i think it might have been 99 years) before it was returned to China so any modern developments that you've seen are mostly the work of the British government in Hong Kong before 1997.
ReplyDeleteohh thank you for the wonderful insight Amanda! :) Please feel free to add any info whenever! :) Love ya!
